About

Trading Trust is where the people who produce the gold meet the people who finance it, buy it, process it, verify it and sometimes fundamentally disagree about how the industry should work.

Hosted by Darby Angel, an entrepreneur and mining operator based in Tanzania with more than 25 years of business experience and 17 years working across African gold and commodities, Trading Trust is built around a simple premise:

The most interesting conversations are usually the ones people aren't having.

Why can it still take 10, 15 or even 18 years to bring a mine into production?

Why does so much mining capital fund years of exploration and drilling before producing a single ounce?

Everyone wants finished gold. Who funds its creation?

If a producer has funded the mining, processing and recovery, what exactly has a buyer contributed that earns a substantial discount?

Where does legitimate due diligence end and perceived “Africa risk” begin?

Should risk simply be priced through a discount — or should the industry get better at independently verifying it?

And if Africa produces the resource, how does Africa retain more of the value created from it?

These aren't theoretical questions for me. I'm based on the ground in Tanzania, developing and scaling gold mining and processing operations and dealing with the realities of turning ore in the ground into physical production.

But Trading Trust isn't about me telling everyone else how the industry should work.

I want the other side of the argument. I'm looking for mining executives, operators, investors, family offices, gold buyers and dealers, financiers, geologists, metallurgists, processors, refiners, verification specialists, commodity professionals, analysts, journalists and African entrepreneurs who have actually done it — and have something worth saying about it.

Agree with me. Challenge me. Tell me I'm wrong.

Just bring experience and be prepared to explain why. No rehearsed corporate talking points. No promotional interview disguised as a conversation. No requirement that we reach the same conclusion. Because the future of mining won't be built by everyone agreeing with the way it has always been done.

Trading Trust is about questioning what we accept, verifying what we believe and exploring better ways to connect Africa's resources, capital, production and global markets.
