About

What is an Abeceder Quotation Conversation?

An Abeceder Quotation Conversation is simply a conversation about a quotation that has had an impact on the guest. It may have inspired them to make a change, influenced how they work, or helped them resolve an issue that had held them back at work or in life in general.

Who publishes Abeceder Quotation Conversations?

The conversation will be recorded and published by Bookboon, which has 3million subscribers, on their eLearning platform as part of a series of expert talks.

Who are Bookboon?

Bookboon, is one of the biggest publishers of business-focused e-learning, e-books, and audio books in the world. The Bookboon library of content is, with a usage rate four times higher than any other e-learning platform, the most used e-learning platform in the world.

Who Publishes on Bookboon?

Bookboon content is produced by a wide range of authors including partners at consulting firms like McKinsey, prominent academics, and specialist professionals like myself. I have spent forty years in HR working in a range of organisations in the UK and internationally.

What is an Expert Talk?

The expert talks are not podcasts, because podcasts are publicly available and mostly available without charge. The expert talks are only available as part of a subscription to the Bookboon library of learning resources.

Who subscribes to Bookboon?

Subscriptions to Bookboon are usually purchased by employers with more than 500 professional employees.

How long will the recording be?

The published recording will ideally last no longer than 30 minutes. I normally put an hour in my diary for the meeting in which the recording is made.

What will we discuss?

During the conversation we will discuss the quotation and answer these sorts of questions

•       What is the quotation?

•       What is the context of the original quotation?

•       When did you first become aware of the quotation?

•       How have you used the quotation?

•       When would it be appropriate and inappropriate for others to use the quotation to guide a decision or course of action?

•       What does the quotation tell us about the world of business and work?

•       How does the quotation help us make sense of the business world and prepare for the future?

What sort of quotation can we discuss?

We can discuss any quotation. So far, the range of quotations that guests have chosen to discuss has ranged from 16th Century martyr John Bradford to street artist Banksy, from 19th Century philosophers like Friedrich Nietzsche, to 20th Century pioneer of modern dance Martha Graham.

What Feedback do we have from listeners?

I have been extremely pleased with the feedback from people who have listened to an Abeceder Quotation Conversation. This has included.

  • It is like listening into a conversation between two people rather than being preached at by a lecturer
  • You didn’t tell me what to think, but you made me think.

What is the advantage to you of being involved?

Whilst a bit more light-hearted than the sort of activities most people are normally invited to participate in, being involved in an Abeceder Quotation Conversation is an opportunity to

  • Be involved in the creation of a different style of learning resource that will be used by people around the world,
  • To demonstrate your knowledge and approach to working,
  • Raise awareness of your achievements,
  • Have a learning experience of your own from discussing your favourite quotation.

To date the feedback from guests has been that having an Abeceder Quotation Conversation was both interesting and great fun.

An Introduction to Abeceder Quotation Conversations - Bookboon

It all started when I was given a copy of the third volume of Charles Moore’s biography of Margaret Thatcher the first female Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, as a birthday present.
