Free Thinking is a BBC Radio 3 programme exploring the ideas, stories and people shaping our understanding of culture, history, literature, the arts and society.
I’m Matthew Sweet, a BBC Radio 3 presenter, cultural historian, journalist, screenwriter and author. I’m interested in conversations that go beyond simple promotion and give guests the opportunity to explore the ideas, research and stories behind their work.
I’m particularly interested in speaking with authors, historians, academics, writers, artists and cultural commentators about new books, historical discoveries, literature, biography, film, the arts, identity, society and overlooked stories.
I’m looking for thoughtful guests who have something distinctive to say and can make their subject accessible to an interested audience. The conversations are relaxed, curious and focused on bringing interesting ideas and compelling stories to life.
If you have a book, area of research, story or perspective that you think would make for an engaging conversation, I’d be pleased to hear from you.
