Valerie Johns

Valerie Johns, MFT, is a psychotherapist, poet, and dreamworker based in Los Angeles, where she has maintained a private practice for over 35 years. Her clinical and creative work grows from the same root: a belief that the unconscious speaks in images, and that learning to listen changes everything.

Clinically trained in depth psychology and somatic approaches, Valerie brings a practitioner’s precision and a poet’s ear to the work of dreaming. She has taught at Antioch University Los Angeles and served as Poet in Residence at Pacific Palisades Elementary School.

Her approach to dream work resists the tidy symbol-dictionary model. Instead, she works associatively, somatically, and imaginatively — treating dreams as living encounters rather than puzzles to solve. It’s a method rooted in Jungian tradition but animated by decades of sitting with real people in real darkness.

Her new poetry collection, Night Flights (BookBaby, July 2026), is the lyric distillation of that practice — poems that move through grief, horses, fire, the body, and the strange grace of the interior life. It’s a journey into soul retrieval, a walk toward wholeness.
