“Welcome! I am a Board-Certified Physician & Eating Disorder Expert who provides medical care for individuals with eating disorders.”
I am an Eating Disorders Expert Physician and Board Certified Family Physician who provides compassionate medical care for children, adolescents and adults with eating disorders. Utilizing a social justice, Health At Every Size lens, I care for individuals of all genders, sizes, shapes and abilities and at any stage of their recovery.
I completed medical school at the University of Chicago and residency at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) where she served as Chief Resident for the Department of Family and Community Medicine. I am one of few primary care physicians nationwide who is been designated by the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP) as a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist and Consultant (CEDS-C) and supervisor for trainee clinicians. I am also a former Medical Liaison to and Board Member of the IAEDP SF Bay Area Chapter and a member of the Academy of Eating Disorders.
Described by my patients as smart, warm and empathetic, I have been named a Top Doctor by Marin Magazine in 2026 and 2020, a Top 10 Metro Area Doctor in 2014 and one of East Bay’s “Best Doctors” by Oakland Magazine in 2012. I am also is a six-time Patient’s Choice Award recipient and a four-time Compassionate Doctor Award recipient.
I believe that relationships are at the center of healing. The relationship between a physician and patient is not separate from medical care—it is an essential part of the medicine itself.
My approach combines rigorous, evidence-based medical care with deeply relational, individualized treatment. Eating disorders are complex illnesses that affect the body, mind, relationships, and family, and effective treatment requires attention to all of these dimensions. I take the medical aspects of eating disorders very seriously, carefully assessing and monitoring each patient's physical health while remaining attentive to the person behind the medical findings.
For more than 20 years, I have specialized in the medical management of eating disorders, caring for children, adolescents, and adults, and I genuinely value working with patients at every stage of life. My role often extends beyond treating medical complications. I strive to understand each patient's experience of illness and recovery, to earn their trust, and to create a relationship in which they feel respected, heard, and cared for—even when treatment is difficult or we are navigating uncertainty together.
Eating disorder treatment is rarely the work of one clinician. I practice collaboratively as part of multidisciplinary treatment teams, working closely with therapists, dietitians, psychiatrists, and other professionals. When a patient needs expertise or a level of care beyond what I can provide in my practice, I am committed to helping families identify excellent specialists, treatment programs, and hospitals. I believe that knowing when and where to refer is an important part of providing excellent medical care.
My clinical work is also informed by my role as a consultant, educator, and supervisor to other clinicians and trainees in the eating disorder field. Staying engaged with colleagues and the evolving evidence helps me continually refine my own practice and provide thoughtful, current care.
Above all, I want my patients to experience medicine that is both scientifically rigorous and deeply human. Evidence guides my recommendations. Clinical experience informs my judgment. Collaboration strengthens the care I provide. And relationships make that care possible.
I believe excellent medicine and human connection are not competing philosophies of care. At their best, they are inseparable.
