“Biophilic designer for architecture buildings and places.Connect with nature to increase well being and enhance biodiversity. Love nature.”
I am the Director of the award winning architecture practice Cura Design, one of the first architectural design practices to offer biophilic design services in the UK.
Born and brought up in Greenwich Connecticut, Ive spent a life in architecture from working with Sverre Fehn in Norway and Renzo Piano in Paris and the artist Vito Acconci in New York City to Cura Designs ongoing residential and community projects in the UK and abroad. Cura as a word can be translated in Portuguese as "the process of making or becoming sound or healthy again". Cura Design endeavours to best serve the natural world not by retreating from it and minimizing our footprint, but by participating more fully as a new regenerative extension of ecology, protecting and enhancing biodiversity through integrating design and architectural technology with nature for our well-being. The practice has won numerous awards including 2017 the office won Best Community Project and People of Plymouth Award (Stiltskin Children’s Theatre) as well as Best Community Project (Union Corner). I have been a member of the Southwest Design Review Panel since 2014.
I was a speaker this past September at the Biophilic Summit 2025 held by the Living Future Institute (uk) which took place in Sud Tyrol Italy with my presentation 5 images and 5 verses. I was also a speaker at London’s first Biophilic Design Conference held in the Barbican Centre in 2024 and have presented on podcasts and other events including: The Biophilic Hubs Happy Healthy Home Show 2025 "Current Projects", Construction Week 2025 London "Panel discussion forNet Zero" and Future Plymouth 2030 “Nature based Solutions and integrating Nature into our buildings”; Homebuilding and Renovating Show London 2021 through 2024; Plymouth Universities “Grey to Green” conference in 2021; The 13th Biennial European Town and Town Planners Conference 2019.
Cura Design has written extensively for the Journal of Biophilic Design and was featured on the Journal of Biophilic Design Podcast February 22, 2022. Cura Designs working area includes the southwest of the UK up to and including London though they have also completed projects as far afield as New York City and Taipei.
Complementing my design practice, Ive also found my way towards cultivating practices of folk singing and devotional singing and meditation as well as interests in traditional and indigenous spiritual practices based in Brazil. I currently live in Devon with my family, small dog and two cats.
