“We fall back into well-being. We fall back into peace of mind. It is our natural state of being. I give people gentle nudges to get unstuck.”
“We have the most wonderful job in the world. We find people in various stages of sleep. And then we get to tap them on the shoulder and be with them as they wake up to the full magnificence of life.” Sydney Banks (1931 – 2009)
My life changed in the late 1970s with an enlightening experience that helped me navigate 30 years as a paramedic in one of the busiest Emergency Medical Services in Canada. It was a true calling for me. When I retired, I went on a mission to bring my story and experience to as many responders as possible who struggled with their careers. That struggle was an option for me, not because I was different. It was only because I understood where my experiences were coming from and who I am.
My key message is - "You are not broken!" Who you are can not be damaged or hurt.
Here are a few other areas of service I am involved in.
Founder & Mentor at Unbroken Hero Project; Coach/Consultant; Mental Health Educator
The Unbroken Hero Project is dedicated to bringing a new mental health paradigm to those that serve in the military, emergency medical, fire, and police services.
The project focuses on the fact that nobody is broken and that we all have innate mental health and resilience.
If a stick floating down a river stream gets stuck on the bank, we don't think it's broken or needs fixing. We gently nudge it back into the flow.
Psychologically, we get caught up in the content of our thinking and get lost. We wake up by understanding who we are, how our mind works, and where our experiences come from. A more profound knowing rises within us, and we feel better and do better.
Clarity, peace of mind, and well-being, even in challenging circumstances, are always available to us.
