“Book copywriter who has written over 4,000 blurbs for bestselling authors | Book sales strategist | Indie fantasy author”
I’m a book copywriter and sales strategist who has spent more than seven years working with hundreds of authors to put their books in the hands of the right readers.
I’ve written more than 4,000 book descriptions/blurbs for clients, including New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestsellers. Working on that many books has given me a perspective that’s difficult to get from studying a single genre, a single publishing career, or even your own books. I’ve had thousands of books cross my desk, and as an author myself, I’ve seen the issue from both sides of the page.
This experience became the foundation of The Blurb Puzzle, my free book on copywriting for authors. It spans not only how authors can condense their stories into a 200-word piece of sales copy, but also the question of book positioning, market expectations, reader psychology, and what makes a reader think “this book is for me”.
On a podcast, I can bring a behind-the-scenes look at the psychology of book buying and the decisions that readers make before they’ve even read a single page. We can talk about the art and science of book descriptions, why authors are usually the worst people to write their own blurbs, how your book’s cover, title, and description work together to establish a “reader promise”, and why the words surrounding a book can matter just as much as the words inside it.
I can bring practical and immediately usable advice to an audience, but I also enjoy delving into the bigger questions behind book marketing, such as how readers make buying decisions, how expectations shape purchasing behavior, and how authors can communicate the value of their stories without losing what makes it unique.
My work has been featured on multiple websites, including Jane Friedman, Self-Publishing Review, and Writer's Fun Zone. My goal is always to help authors put their stories in the hands of the right readers, whether they’re looking for genre fiction, nonfiction, children’s books, or anything in between.
