“Witches, Wise Women & Celtic Lore: Bestselling Historical Fantasy Author Digs Into the Darker Side of History”
I write about witches—but the real history is often stranger than anything I could invent.
I’m Lisa A. Traugott, bestselling author of the Tales of the Witchborn historical fantasy series and creator of the live presentation Celtic Myths, Magick & Witch Trials. My research has taken me from Scottish witch-trial sites and folklore museums to castles, the Hellfire Caves near London, and Colonial Williamsburg as I explore how real women, ancient Celtic beliefs, and superstition became entangled with accusations of witchcraft.
My novels To Condemn a Witch and To Rescue a Witch blend that research with adventure, romance, and magic. To Condemn a Witch became a #1 Amazon bestseller, and To Rescue a Witch was a Next Generation Indie Book Awards finalist.
I also double majored in history and theater, was a former cast member of John Cena’s American Grit, and appeared on Buffy the Vampire Slayer—so I’m comfortable behind a microphone and love a good conversation.
I can talk witch trials, Celtic folklore, historical research, the women history forgot, turning research into fiction, reinventing yourself creatively later in life (I published my first novel when I turned 50) and why the truth behind the pointy hat is more complicated than you think. When I’m not writing or performing, I use my mom magic to get my kids to do their homework.
To Rescue a Witch (coming soon). It's 1739. An abused girl accused of witchcraft must be defended by a man married to an actual witch.
