About Me

Katie Asmus, MA, LPC, BMP, is a Somatic and nature-based psychotherapist, ceremonialist, coach, mentor, teacher, and rites of passage guide. As the founder and director of the Somatic Nature Therapy Institute in Boulder, CO, Katie has dedicated her life to helping people reconnect with their innate wisdom, expand their minds and hearts to greater possibilities, and foster love and peace by tending to the hearts and souls of humanity.

With a Master’s degree in Somatic Psychology and over 30 years of experience leading individuals and groups in nature, Katie’s work bridges the realms of healing, personal growth, and spiritual connection. She has over 20 years of experience as a Certified EMDR Therapist, Consultant, and Trainer and has spent a lifetime apprenticing to ceremony and rites of passage. Katie’s mission is to normalize, celebrate, and bring compassion to the human experience, empowering individuals to embrace their authentic selves.

In addition to maintaining a thriving private psychotherapy practice, Katie has been at the forefront of somatic, wilderness, adventure, and eco-therapies within academia. She has taught graduate students at Naropa University and Prescott College for over two decades, shaping the next generation of therapists and practitioners in these fields. Through the Somatic Nature Therapy Institute, Katie offers online and in-person workshops and trainings in somatic trauma work, ceremony and rites of passage facilitation, and a wide range of nature-based and adventure therapy skills. Her institute boasts the longest-standing training program in the U.S. for therapists outside of in nature-based therapy outside of the university setting, and she has served as the U.S. representative for the Adventure Therapy International Community (ATIC) for the past nine years.

Katie’s work has been featured in edited books and journals, and she has delivered keynote addresses at major conferences. She also teaches internationally, sharing her expertise with a global audience. Drawing deep inspiration from the natural world, human connection, and the unseen realms, Katie is a tender of thresholds, guiding individuals through transformative moments in their lives.

Katie believes in the profound wisdom and innate healing capacity of every individual and is passionate about helping people rediscover their interconnection and belonging within the greater web of life.
