“Great conversationalist with a depth and breadth of knowledge and great stories about travel, travel writing, journaling and empowerment.”
Since leaving home for Europe alone at age seventeen, I’ve traveled to more than ninety countries. By profession I was a marketing strategist and researcher who conducted thousands of interviews and focus groups. Those skills have helped me to deeply connect with people around the world.
I'm now on my third career, travel writer and speaker. I am on the editorial board of JourneyWoman and write regularly for other publications. I also teach classes about travel at NY's Center for Learning and Living.
In July 2021, my travel memoir, Travel Mania: Stories of Wanderlust, was published by SheWrites Press. In October 2023 my second book, Wanderlust: Extraordinary People, Quirky Places, and Curious Cuisine will be published.
Every day I write a 100-word essay about some aspect of travel and post it to a large following on Facebook. I have endless stories about both business and personal travel, many viewed specifically from a single woman’s perspective.
I have been featured on numerous podcasts, live TV and radio. To see a partial list of media appearances please go to: https://karengershowitz.com/in-the-media/

After watching dancers on the streets of Buenos Aires, do you long to learn how to tango? The good news is your interests and passions are keys to unlocking unique experiences. It's surprisingly easy to find classes or groups that will connect you with others who share your interests, no matter where you are in the world. Finding local groups and activities is often about utilizing multiple resources and a bit of creative searching.
Seasoned traveller Karen Gershowitz wants to pitch you on the magic of solo travel. She spoke to Ken Connors about her latest book.
Writer Karen Gershowitz says getting lost while traveling can be a deliberate choice, a path to exploration and connection with a new city.
Since leaving home for Europe alone at age seventeen, Karen Gershowitz has traveled to more than ninety countries. In pursuit of her passion for travel, she lost and gained friends and lovers and made a radical career change. She learned courage and risk taking and succeeded at things she didn’t think she could do: She climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro. She visited remote areas of Indonesia on her own and became a translator, though only fluent in English. Karen is the author of Travel Mania: Stories of Wanderlust. Her second book, Wanderlust: Extraordinary People, Quirky Places and Curious Cuisine will be published October 2023. She writes regularly for Journey Woman and International Swans. Her example will inspire armchair travelers to become explorers and embolden everyone to be more courageous. Find more on Karen including links to her books at: https://karengershowitz.com
