Hyrum Hawks

Hyrum W. Hawks is a big nerd. At least, that’s what he was told for many years. While he still wears that title with pride, he now sees himself as a child of God first, nerd perhaps eighth. He’s married with seven children and a single cactus on his desk. (The cactus is on the desk. Not the children.) His day job is engineer, inventor, and patent agent, especially if it involves outer space resource utilization. He plans on mining asteroids one day, but has already worked on Lunar and Martian resource projects. His hobby (obsession) is creating delusions in hard scifi and scifantasy. If all goes well, he’s going to keep writing books forever, some of which might be fairly good.

Engineering Career: 15 years in heavy industry (mineral processing, oil & gas, aerospace, outer space resources). Projects included work in the US, Brazil, Chile, Nigeria, Turkey, Germany, and Estonia.

Patent Career: Drafted hundreds of patent applications for clients (chemical, mechanical, electrical, software, AI, etc.). 42 granted patents as inventor.

Book nerd: Read thousands of novels, especially in his teens and twenties. Started writing two years ago and has written over a million words. Published two novels.

The Persian Asteroid is a hard scifi novel about three outer space engineers kidnapped by the Iranian regime and forced to build an asteroid retrieval mission or face consequences. They face the situation with humor, optimism, and conviction.

The Valley of Death is a sci-fantasy novel set in another world where glyph magic is in constant conflict with mundane technology. A deposed princess, expert in the magical glyphs, must join forces with a charismatic ambassador and battle through the Valley of Death to reclaim her war-torn kingdom in a post-atomic world.
