About Me

Eric C. Williams has dedicated his career to advocating for Detroit’s community. As the Managing Director of the Economic Equity Practice at the Detroit Justice Center, he demonstrates a steadfast commitment to advancing economic equity within the city.

He is also the Founder and CEO of Eric C. Williams, PLLC, a boutique law firm specializing in trademark and Intellectual Property needs for Detroit’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, small businesses, and non-profit entities.

Beyond his legal endeavors, Eric’s impact extends to thought leadership as a compelling keynote speaker. His insights address surveillance technology, Intellectual Property challenges for growing businesses, and affordable housing issues.

His journey has encompassed a directorial role at Wayne State University Law School’s Business and Community Law Clinic and leadership of the Wayne Law Program for Entrepreneurship and Business Law. He has also practiced at prestigious New York firms, including Nixon Peabody, LLP, and Winston & Strawn, LLP.

Academically accomplished, he earned his J.D. from Columbia Law School, an M.Phil. in international relations from Cambridge University’s Magdalene College, and a B.A. from the University of Michigan. His commitment to community development flourished in the non-profit sector before his legal career, benefiting Focus: Hope in Detroit and the Health and Welfare Council of Long Island in New York.

Eric’s grassroots presence includes active involvement as a BMe fellow and a valued speaker for local entrepreneurship programs and community events. He holds influence as a board member of the Detroit Cultivator Community Land Trust. Moreover, his dedication to civil liberties is evident through his association with the Lawyers Committee for the Michigan ACLU.

Eric’s advocacy extends to the discourse on surveillance technology and ethical boundaries. He ardently advocates for the balance between technological advancement and ethical considerations, even challenging technologies like Shot Spotter. His leadership championed Chapter 17 of the 2019 Detroit City Code, promoting Community Input over Government Surveillance Ordinance.

Eric C. Williams is an emblem of equity, and advocacy, sculpting a promising future for the people of Detroit and those beyond.
