About Me

I am on a mission to explore the rich history, diverse cultures, and varied life of the Mississippi River Valley, from the river's Headwaters in northern Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico. I have driven over 130,000 miles along the Great River Road since 2007, hiked to the tops of bluffs, paddled on the Mississippi River in kayaks and canoes, and floated in luxury as a guest lecturer on the American Queen. My work has been published in Smithsonian Magazine, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Minneapolis Star Tribune, The National, and other publications. I also maintain a website about the river at www.MississippiValleyTraveler.com.

I also write mysteries set in places along the Mississippi River. The books feature a down-on-his-luck travel writer, Frank Dodge, who has a gift for getting in trouble. The books sometimes feature subplots about the struggles Dodge has faced in his own life. In one thread, Dodge must come to terms with a heartbreaking long-term relationship that ended when the man he loved developed a medical condition that forced Dodge to make an unenviable decision.
