“Expert in Helping Men Heal from Pornography, Betrayal, and Relationship Wounds.”
I'm David Hanson, a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor, speaker, and founder of Veritas Counseling and Consulting in Dallas, Texas. For more than eight years, I've helped individuals and couples navigate addiction, betrayal trauma, relationship challenges, anxiety, grief, and personal crises.
What makes my perspective unique is the combination of clinical expertise, theological training, and real-world experience. I hold a Master's degree in Professional Counseling, a Master of Divinity, and advanced training in addiction recovery, trauma treatment, attachment, and relationship restoration. Before becoming a therapist, I spent more than a decade working in nonprofit and faith-based organizations, as well as marketing and public relations for both a professional sports organization and a business consulting firm.
I specialize in helping people recover from pornography addiction, rebuild trust after betrayal, strengthen relationships, and address the underlying shame, wounds, and emotional disconnection that often keep people stuck. Through years of counseling individuals and couples, I've seen firsthand that lasting change is rarely about willpower alone. Real healing occurs when people understand the deeper stories driving their behaviors and learn how to reconnect with themselves, others, and their values.
As a therapist, I am passionate about helping people move beyond surface-level solutions. I enjoy discussing topics such as men's mental health, relationship recovery, addiction, betrayal trauma, emotional resilience, faith and mental health, technology's impact on intimacy, and the role of shame in keeping people trapped in destructive patterns. My goal is always to provide practical insights that listeners can immediately apply to their own lives and relationships.
My faith has also played a significant role in my professional journey. As someone with seminary training and extensive experience in faith-based settings, I enjoy helping audiences explore the intersection of spirituality, psychology, and personal growth. While many people assume faith and mental health are separate conversations, I believe they often work together in powerful ways to support healing and transformation.
Beyond counseling, I bring a unique background that often resonates with audiences. I earned my undergraduate degree in Marketing from the University of Kentucky, where I served as the university mascot and even appeared in a national ESPN and Capital One commercial. I later coached a varsity basketball team to a Tennessee state championship before transitioning into nonprofit leadership and eventually becoming a therapist.
Podcast hosts often appreciate that I combine professional expertise with relatable stories, humor, and practical takeaways. Whether discussing relationships, addiction, faith, personal growth, or mental health, my goal is to leave audiences feeling informed, encouraged, and equipped with tools they can use long after the episode ends.
When I'm not counseling clients, you'll find me spending time with my wife and two daughters, reading, training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, watching sports, playing board games, or enjoying the outdoors here in Texas.
