“From prosthetic-eye pranks to pole dancing: a blind woman with stories to tell”
I’m blind, was diagnosed with ADHD at 21, and have a prosthetic eye, which I’ve been using to cause chaos since primary school!
Visually impaired since birth, I lost more of my sight a few years ago. I have a degree in SEND and a Master’s in Psychology & Education, and now work as an education adviser supporting blind and partially sighted students, families and professionals with education, accessibility, assistive technology and statutory support. I’m also a volunteer mentor for young visually impaired people.
I’ve appeared on podcasts and radio discussing sudden sight loss, Disabled Students’ Allowance, mentoring, e-bikes and the blind Barbie.
After taking time out for my mental health, I wrote and illustrated a children’s book about a blind ghost learning to use a white cane, which I independently published.
Outside work I crochet, junk journal, read, send postcards around the world, try new crafts and pole dance. I love conversations that can be thoughtful, funny and occasionally ridiculous, like the time I put my prosthetic eye in a school-trip water jug!
