Hello, I'm Barb Lien, a resilient soul with a passion for storytelling, comics, and advocating for intelligent narratives. Originally from Minnesota, I embarked on a journey fueled by creativity and a thirst for knowledge.
My love affair with literature began during my college days, where I honed my skills as a radio DJ while immersing myself in the captivating world of storytelling. Transitioning from the airwaves to the written word, I pursued my dream of becoming a guitarist/singer-songwriter, culminating in the release of an album on the esteemed Imp label.
However, life presented its challenges, as I grappled with health issues such as chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, and extreme environmental sensitivities. Despite these hurdles, I refused to let adversity define me, drawing strength from my resilience and the unwavering support of my loving partner and husband, Park Cooper (we currently live in the vibrant city of Austin, Texas).
As a writer, I've left an indelible mark on the literary landscape, co-founding and contributing for years to the award-winning website Sequential Tart. Through insightful reviews and articles, I've championed comics and popular culture, carving out a niche in the industry with my unique perspective.
My creative journey has seen me traverse various mediums, from co-authoring the sci-fi vampire graphic novel HALF DEAD (a joint venture co-published in part by Marvel Comics) to penning-- with my spouse Park-- the vampire prose novel SOMETHING MORE THAN BLOOD and the supernatural prose novels SONG TO THE SIREN and THE TALKING CURE. Together with Park, I've embarked on numerous collaborative projects, showcasing our shared passion for storytelling and creative exploration.
Beyond my literary endeavors, I'm deeply committed to advocating for intelligent narratives that challenge conventions and inspire thought. My tagline, "A strong survivor redeemed by love," encapsulates my journey—a testament to the transformative power of love and resilience in overcoming life's adversities.
