Karim Allana

Karim Allana is a seasoned professional in the sustainable construction industry, with more than 40 years of experience. His work spans several states, including California, Washington, Nevada, Hawaii, North Carolina, Colorado, and Oregon, where he holds engineering licenses. Karim specializes in building enclosure, roofing, waterproofing, and exterior façades.

Mr. Allana’s professional journey began at Santa Clara University, where he earned his civil engineering degree. As a student, he worked at Precision Roofing in San Jose, which sparked his interest in building enclosure. 

After graduation, he joined Turner Construction Company, where he worked on new, ground-up construction projects. He then returned to Precision Roofing as an operations manager, which served as a stepping stone toward establishing his own business.

In 1987, Mr. Allana founded Allana Buick & Bers (ABB), a construction firm that now oversees several billion dollars in new construction projects and over a hundred million dollars in remedial construction work every year. 

As the CEO of ABB, he is responsible for the overall direction of the company, including strategic planning and daily operations, managing a team of approximately 225 employees. His client base is diverse and includes sectors such as local and federal government, multi-family residential, industrial, educational, healthcare, and insurance. Under Karim’s leadership, ABB has been recognized as the best firm to work for by AEC industry group Zweig White and has received two International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC) awards for excellence.

Mr. Allana takes an active role in both reconstruction and new construction projects, overseeing all aspects from condition assessments and energy efficiency to renewable energy system upgrades, engineering design, and construction management. He strives to provide ABB’s clients with well-informed expertise in engineering and building systems, as well as in complex project management and conflict resolution.

Mr. Allana has also served as an expert witness in close to 1,000 construction defect cases, bringing his knowledge and training to forensic investigations of building failures. 

He frequently develops and delivers technical seminars and presentations to engineers, architects, and construction specialists. He educates these professionals about improving risk management in construction, enhancing energy efficiency, and prolonging the life expectancy of buildings.

Mr. Allana is a member of several professional societies and associations, such as the International Facility Management Association (IFMA), the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC), the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA), the Community Associations Institute (CAI), and the International Code Council (ICC). He holds certifications as a Registered Roof Consultant and a Registered Waterproofing Consultant.

Karim Allana currently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area.
