As a golf high performance coach, I often get asked what is the most important skill to master in golf. My answer is always the same: mental performance.


Mental performance is the foundation of any successful golfer. It is the ability to focus, stay calm, cope with pressure, and overcome challenges on the course. Mental performance is what separates the good players from the great ones.


But how do you build a strong mental foundation? Here are some tips that I use with my clients:


Practice mindfulness: Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention to the present moment, without judgment. Mindfulness helps you to reduce stress, enhance concentration, and improve emotional regulation.


Use positive self-talk: Positive self-talk is the act of talking to yourself in a supportive and encouraging way. Positive self-talk helps you to boost your confidence, motivate yourself, and cope with setbacks.


Visualize success: Visualization is the technique of imagining yourself performing well in a specific situation. Visualization helps you to prepare mentally, activate your muscles, and increase your self-efficacy.
