  • Personal: Jonathan, the child of Nigerian immigrants and a twin, grew up in a family of medical professionals including his sister, a breast cancer surgeon, and his father, also a surgeon who worked with underserved communities in the U.S. and Nigeria. Jonathan is deeply committed to giving back. He serves as a Board Trustee of Drake University, his alma mater, an adjunct professor at University of Southern California, Save the Music Music industry board advisor, a member of Black Music Action Coalition's Executive Council and is a Governor for the Los Angeles Chapter of the Recording Academy. In each of these roles, he acts as a mentor for executives of color, sharing the wisdom he's gained throughout his career. When Azu discovered he had prostate cancer at age 44, he was treated and cured at City of Hope in Los Angeles and now sits on the executive board of its Music, Film, Entertainment Industry (MFEI) fundraising group and has chaired their annual events. “There is nothing I am more passionate about than breaking the barriers that prevent those who look like me from gaining access to screenings and treatment that could save their lives,”
