I am a former broadcast journalist and voice talent who, after a debilitating and long "bout" of depression, vowed to use that experience to reach others who, like me, may not have even named their dark thoughts as symptoms of a common and treatable illness. I started a non-profit (Giving Voice to Mental Illness) and launched the Giving Voice to Depression podcast and social-media outreach campaign to let others know they are not alone and that suicide is not the answer.
