Working in a London UK company my career developed as the business grew to national, then international status with a large product range specific to the retail and garment industry. During my 10 years as Head of the Development team, we doubled the range selling B2B through direct marketing and online and my experience includes International sourcing and far east supply chain management.
CHANGING FOCUS
Recognizing the need for a new challenge, moving to the Scottish Highlands gave me and my family a new direction.
I turned my attention to issues of Rural Business & Marketing Communication, first as Consultant for a local enterprise co., then as an Independent Marketing Coach/Business Advisor. I supported 200+ companies in areas of marketing, business start-up, growth and development.
PODCAST
My father's death brought recognition that I had lost my passion for life, so in 2018 I launched Life Passion & Business as an exploration of passion/purpose and how that fits with business. Through 100+ interviews, I learned a lot and developed the podcast 5 Questions:
These questions can shift a static mindset to being fully engaged in the discovery that anything and everything is possible. They empower me to focus on areas of life and business that are most fulfilling to me.
VIRTUAL EVENTS
In April 2020 the project found a new audience through Virtual Events. Living Beyond The Change launched as the world went into lock-down and fear was heightened about living, working and socializing in a potentially dangerous world.
Reasons & Results - Drop The Excuses & Get Stuff Done, followed in August 2020. This event benefited from my wife's administration skills and has been a catalyst for a new way of living and working together.
In November 2020 we launched Spirit-duality, a unique exploration of what it is to be a spiritual person dealing with challenge and diversity.
ACTING, SPEAKING & FACILITATION
I've always enjoyed performance. In London I trained in acting/singing and completed a 1 year Personal Development Facilitator training course. On moving to Scotland I developed my coaching skills and served as Club President for the Toastmasters club.
PHYSICAL FITNESS
In my 20's I enjoyed martial arts and squash. Later, long commutes to work were avoided by leaving early and going to the gym. With the move to Scotland and working from home the good habits dropped away.
At 53, after a 13 year break, my body was telling me things had to change. I returned to the gym and started running a few years later. In 2018 I ran my first 10K and I'm currently training for a marathon in October (2022). Yes, it is It's not about competing but it is also about using my body and pushing beyond perceived boundaries.
LIFE PURPOSE
Who Am I? is a question few people really ask themselves. This has to be addressed to find satisfaction in the life you choose to live.
Along with the relationships we have with family and friends, personal fulfillment is found living in alignment with core values and remaining passionate and curious about the world. Business is no different. The relationships we forge with work colleagues and customers has the potential to enrich life's journey.
One thing I discovered with this question is that my life purpose is to move people forward.
