About Me

I am a Canadian who bicycled across Canada at 20, and then got schizophrenia at 22, It took me 27 years, but I successfully recovered from schizophrenia! Now I help others with mental illness.

I advocate for people with schizophrenia, but my main focus is helping people with mental illness in developing countries.

Some countries have only one psychiatrist per million people.

There are even 100,000s of people with mental illness who are actually kept in chains in 60 countries.

My heart goes out to them.

At MindAid.ca, I steer people towards 7 nonprofits that give basic mental health care in developing countries. These models of basic mental health care are low-cost, proven effective, and scalable.

Promoters of these groups include: Zak Williams (son of Robin Williams), Forest Whitaker (of "Star Wars"), Bill Clinton, Ashley Judd, Allison Janney (of "The West Wing"), and Timothy Shriver (founder of the Special Olympics).

These nonprofits are relatively small, but they help thousands of people reclaim their mental health, get back into their community, and become productive again.

I bring more attention to these groups. I've been through mental illness myself and know how hard it is. I'd really like to make being mentally well possible for more people.
