About Me

In 1975, long before "intuitive eating" became a thing, I created Thin Within, a popular 2-month workshop program in the SF Bay Area--revolutionary at the time. Although I left my own weight worries behind decades ago using this experiential process, it pains me to see so many women still wasting their precious time and emotional energy on managing their weight. The Cherry Pie Paradox: the Surprising Path to Diet Freedom and Lasting Weight Loss offers simple mindfulness and mind-shifting practices to help let that sh*t go. I'm on a mission to relieve this unnecessary suffering and free the energy for the important work we were meant to do.

I'm a lively podcast guest who can entertain, inform and inspire your listeners with helpful stories and tips:

  • how to increase your eating pleasure and decrease your guilt
  • how to locate and strengthen the "normal/healthy" eater within
  • how to identify the Pirates of Resistance that sabotage your good intentions
  • why it's so important to differentiate between foods that are teasers and those that are real pleasers,
  • how to navigate social eating situations without losing your focus on your goals.
  • how to reframe and learn from your so-called failures
  • and most important, why it is that DIETS DO NOT WORK..

Some Testimonials:

"Joy Imboden's brilliance changed my life when I took the original Thin Within workshop in 1977. I cannot say enough about her work and this important book. It was the beginning of developing my own thoughts and program for breaking free from compulsive eating. Most people are synthesizers, not true originals--Joy is a true original. Bravo, Joy!" —Geneen Roth, author of the #1 NYT bestseller, Women Food and God, and Breaking Free from Compulsive Eating
